[ 'SHELL' RADIO ]

Featured in Portland Design Week

2013

Constructed using the parts of an old pocket radio, this eye-catching radio engages the user and allows the tuning element to become the focus. Through a series of notched dials, the typical tuner is transformed into a unique engaging sliding tuner.

The volume on/off controls discreetly protrude from the back edge of the form, providing for a sleek design with minimal interruptions. The tuning control is reminiscent of plastic sound board controls, but constructed using natural materials creating an interesting and unique object for the user to engage with.

The form was created with layers of MDF, and formed with plastic in a vacuum former. The wooden faceplate, tuner dial, and volume dial are made of birch wood.
